Naviance & SCOIR
Naviance Student (Grades 9 - 12)
Using this system, students learn more about their strengths and interests, define academic and educational goals, explore career and college opportunities, and develop a plan for High School and Beyond. Naviance provides tools to help students make better informed decisions about their education while empowering them to develop and pursue educational plans aligned to their individual goals.
Students are assigned and required to complete Naviance tasks each school year. Completing Naviance tasks is part of the Edmonds School District's High School and Beyond Plan (HSBP), which is a graduation requirement.

What is Naviance?
- Naviance is aligned to the HB1599 Requirements for High School students, also known as, the High School and Beyond Plan. It is a tool for our students to use as they plan a path after high school.
- In 9th & 10th grade, students create their 4-year graduation plans, explore potential careers, and work on setting smart goals for a successful high school career.
- In 11th grade, students create resumes, explore colleges and careers, and they also learn about financial aid (and other ways) to help pay for college.
- In 12th grades, Naviance becomes a tool to apply to college/trade and technical schools, apply for scholarships, order transcripts, upload letters of recommendations, and more!
- THE HSBP IS A GRADUATION REQUIREMENT!
Why do we use Naviance?
- High school goes fast - BELIEVE IT!
- Having a plan allows you to prepare for what you want to do after high school graduations. Naviance is a meaningful tool to help you prepare for your future.
- Naviance helps high school students understand college opportunities, identify college majors, and potential careers. This is a great place to answer the questions that will shape your future:
- Who am I? What do I want to be? How will I get there? How will I succeed?
- Complete all the tasks (both required and optional) for .125 credit per year. That’s .5 credit in 4 years - AKA an elective!
How do I access my account?
- Every students at Meadowdale has their own Naviance account and you DO NOT need a log or password to access it. It's connected to Google!
- To access Naviance, please visit: https://student.naviance.com/meadowdalehs
- Select "Student"
- Then click on: "Continue with single sign-on"
- This will take you directly to YOUR homepage.
Navigating Naviance: What is included in each tab?
It's time to break down the sections in Naviance:
- Home: Get a quick glance at your account, messages from the school, important to-dos and tasks, your favorites, etc.
- Self-Discovery: Take assessments to help you learn more about yourself and your potential career interests.
- Careers: Explore and favorite careers of interest, access tools to learn more about different career and professional pathways.
- Colleges: Search for and discover your best fit college possibilities.
- Planner: Define and manage your goals, to-dos, and tasks that have been assigned to you by your school or district.
- About Me: Access and edit account information, build and review items such as your resume and journal, and access surveys.
Grade 9
Tasks marked with an asterisk (*) are required. For graduation, all students must complete the 'required' tasks. In order to earn .125 HS Credit, students need to complete the 'optional' tasks in addition to the required tasks.
Strength's Assessment*
The Strengths Explorer is a skill assessment that identifies each student’s three strongest emerging talents. Students will discover what they need to do next to continue building on their identified strengths. Please note: You may only take this personality profile ONE time. You must finish it in one sitting.
My Plan Survey*
In this survey, you will be identifying key elements of your High School and Beyond Plan including your current post-high school plans, careers interests, and classes and programs you are interested in taking in high school to help you explore your interests and reach your goals. Your responses to the survey will reflect your current goals and interests at this point in time and can be changed as your goals and interests change as you progress through high school.
To assist you in this process, we have provided a Grade 9 Education Planning Worksheet which you can use to begin identifying and mapping out your courses and initial plans for high school and beyond. This optional worksheet can help you complete the survey questions as well as assist you in preparing for 10th grade registration. Completion of this worksheet is not required but is an optional tool available to assist you in your planning process.

SMART Goals
The SMART goal tool is used to create a goal that is achievable by breaking the goal down into categories such as Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Timely. Your SMART goals can range from a variety of things whether they be academic, career focused, personal, post secondary or any other goal that pertains to you.
Grade 10
Tasks marked with an asterisk (*) are required. For graduation, all students must complete the 'required' tasks. In order to earn .125 HS Credit, students need to complete the 'optional' tasks in addition to the required tasks.
Career Interest Profiler*
The “Career Interest 15 Profiler” is a tool that can help students discover the types of work activities and careers that match their interests. The interest profiler has 180 questions about work activities that people do at their jobs. There are no right or wrong answers!

AchieveWorks® Personality Assessment*
This activity will help you discover educational and career options that are a good fit based on your personality traits and areas of interest.
Read the Full Report after completing the assessment to learn more about your personality type. Your personalized Report can make school and work easier and more effective, and also help you understand others and others understand you.

Upload a Resume*
Upload your resume to Naviance. If you haven't started a resume yet; use the Resume Builder to create a resume using your activities and experience. Please note: This task is marked complete when a document is uploaded. If you are using the Resume Builder to create your Resume, please Update/Add Sections and Print/Export your resume.

Financial Aid Survey*
A.K.A. Financial Planning for After High School
Students should review the Financial Aid information provided by ESD, and watch the video provided by WSAC. Once complete, post a reflection comment in Naviance using the following prompt - “How will this Financial Planning information help you after high school?”

Apply to College or Technical School
All students attending a 2-year or 4-year college should update their application outcomes in SCOIR:
- Make sure you've moved all completed applications to the "applied" column in SCOIR
- Mark the admissions decisions for each college or university (accepted, waitlisted, denied)
- Mark the college or university you will attend as "enrolling" - this tells us where to send your final transcript!
- And finally, let us know if you need help!!
Minimum Requirements to Graduate
Students must have the following evidence in order to verify their High School & Beyond Plan Requirement (for Graduation) has been met:
- Achieveworks Personality Assessment
- Completed My Plan Survey from Grade 11
- Completed Senior Exit Survey & Meeting
- Uploaded Resume
- Completed Financial Aid Research Task
Any of these required tasks assigned but not completed during Grade 11 will need to be completed in Grade 12.
SCOIR (Grade 12)
SCOIR is designed to break down the college admissions process into manageable steps that will help you evaluate all those important questions one step, one day at a time. Learn about yourself, begin and refine the search process; search for colleges based on personal and academic interests, build your college list, and explore campus communities to understand what type of environment fits you best. Apply with confidence.
All students (Grades 9-12) must complete the High School & Beyond Plan (HSBP) tasks in Naviance.
Seniors applying to college in their last year of HS should also use SCOIR.
